SAP ERP
SAP is one of the leading ERP (i.e. Enterprise Resource Planning) software in the world and SAP has a very interesting evolution from the product used till date. SAP launched it’s first commercial product in the year 1973 and it was based on the tier system like one tier system was called SAP R1 and two tier system was called SAP R2 and three tier system was called SAP R3.
SAP released it’s ERP software SAP R/3 in early 1990s. In 2004, At the first SAPPHIRE event of the year in Orlando, Florida, SAP announces the general release of its flagship application, SAP ERP. SAP ERP constitutes the foundation of SAP' s industry solutions and a springboard to enterprise SOA.
SAP ERP includes SAP ECC (successor of SAP R/3) and EHP (Enhancement Package). ECC stands for ERP Central Component (SAP ECC). SAP ECC constitutes integrated core modules Sales & Distribution (SD), Production Planning (PP), Materials Management (MM), Quality Management (QM),
Warehouse Management (WM), Project Systems (PS), Financial Accounting & Controlling (FI/CO) and Human Resources. The purpose of positioning it as ECC is to enable SAP to build and develop an environment of other products that can function upon the foundation of the central component. R/3 Enterprise was replaced with the introduction of ERP Central Component.
SAP ECC (ERP Central component) is the core of SAP Business suite. SAP Business suite has SAP ECC, SAP CRM, SAP SRM, SAP SCM, SAP PLM. SAP business suite can run on any database (Oracle, MSSQL, IBM DB2) including HANA.
